With a 7" or 8" reflector plus grids, you're almost quadrupling the area of the light source, while still trying to focus it down.Īlso, the old grid reflectors were smooth chrome on the inside, which made for some pretty dirty looking light, multiple shadows, uneven distribution, yuck. For example, the OCF gel/filter holders are stackable, and you keep the light source to the diameter of the frosted plate. In use, the Spill-Kills, D1 Grids, and the OCF grid/gel holders I find to not only be a much more elegant solution, but also provide a better quality of light. Personally, I find the zoom reflectors a bit redundant on the D1's. Easy to bring mounted onto your Profoto light fits in BackPack M, Bag XS and Bag S Plus when mounted onto B1X, B1, D1 or D2. Light spread adjustable 55-85 with B1X, B1, D1 and D2. They're a lot more effective with the domes, like what you're used to, but also because of the textured interior, have much, much smoother falloff than the old zoom reflectors. Zoom function for adjusting light spread shape the light by simply sliding the reflector back and forth on the head. The Zoom reflectors, if you don't have grids for them, would be used to mainly control spill, and possibly focus some of that light down. Profoto says the B1's, D1's, and B2's, because they use a flat plate instead of a dome, have a built-in 70 degree reflector in them.
